About

I  practiced law for thirty years. While I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity for intellectual creativity provided by my work, I realized that I also enjoyed working with my hands and had a strong desire to create tangible objects that could be appreciated not just intellectually but visually. Even more, I discovered that I enjoyed learning how to make art, the process and craftsmanship that goes into the creation of a piece of art, as much as I did in then using that knowledge and set of skills to express myself and to communicate visually.

I consider myself largely self-taught in a number of mediums, I have over the last twenty years “built my toolbox” by taking more than forty five different courses or workshops in a wide range of mediums from at least a dozen different art centers, adult schools, craft schools and organizations. I have been fortunate enough to have had solo exhibitions of my clocks, photogram/reverse prints, mixed media, ceramic/glass wall pieces and clay monoprints, and to have received awards in juried shows for ceramic, welded steel, cast glass and fused ceramic and glass pieces.

I believe that every creative action has two elements: Art and Craft.   Art is the internal vision, the image, the emotion or the idea that you want to express or convey;   and Craft is the means or medium by which you present your Art. I don’t believe that any single medium is universally the best, so I work in many different mediums, each time trying to find the Craft that best expresses the Art.
