THE ART OF HOPE

I am very pleased to announce that juror John Sabraw has selected my hand built, raku fired paper clay sculpture AN OLD MAN’S PRAYER to be part of Mississippi State University’s national juried exhibition “The Art of Hope”. The exhibition will run from January 20, 2020 until March 27, 2020 at the Cullis Wade Depot Art Gallery, 75 B.S. Hood Road, Mississippi State University, MS 39762. There will be a reception on Friday, January 31, 2020. AN OLD MAN’S PRAYER is part of my “Expressive Hands” Series of small, hand built, raku fired paper clay sculptures from 2017 and 2018. In AN OLD MAN’S PRAYER the fingers are bent with time and wear. Expectations have been colored by the disappointments and trials of life but there is hope – perhaps this time.

I am quite pleased to announce that juror Alma Ruiz included my Joomchi wall hanging PORTRAIT OF GAIA: 2018 in the Brand Library and Art Center’s 47th Annual Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper. The Brand Library and Art Center is located 1601 W. Mountain Road in Glendale, California 91201, and the Exhibition ran from September 7, 2019 through October 25, 2019 with an opening reception on September 7, 2019. Out of the 1069 pieces submitted from across the country by nine hundred and seventy-six artists, only 89 pieces, including PORTRAIT OF GAIA: 2018, were chosen for the Exhibition.

ART OF THE GERRYMANDER IN BOOK AND PAPER ARTS

I am very happy to announce that juror Anita Garza has chosen to include my Joomchi wall hanging, THE ART OF THE GERRYMANDER, in the Indiana University – Kokomo “Book and Paper Arts” Exhibition. The exhibition will run from November 1, 2019 until November 28, 2019 at the IU-Kokomo Downtown Gallery, 102 N Main Street, Kokomo, IN 46901. There will be an opening reception from 5:30 until 9:00 pm on Friday, November 1, 2019. THE ART OF THE GERRYMANDER has previously been exhibited at venues in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Missouri.

DARK MOON RISING IN 2019 INTERNATIONAL JURIED CERAMICS EXHIBITION

I am very pleased to announce that juror Garth Johnson has chosen my smoke fired tile wall hanging DARK MOON RISING to be one of the fifty-two (from over four hundred submittals) pieces that will be part of The Center for Contemporary Art’s “2019 International Juried Ceramics Exhibition”. The Exhibition will run from November 8, 2019 through December 21, 2019. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, November 8, 2019. The Center for Contemporary Art is located at 2020 Burnt Mills Road, Bedminster, NJ  07921.

 

GROWING OLD TOGETHER in Passage Show

I am pleased to announce that juror Gwen Chanzit has chosen my monotype print GROWING OLD TOGETHER to be part of the “Passage” show sponsored by the Colorado Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art. Out of 550 entries submitted nationwide to this broadly themed and open media call for entries, only 54 pieces were chosen. The show will be held at the Niza Knoll Gallery on Santa Fe Street in the Historic Art District of Denver, Colorado from Wednesday, November 13, 2019 until Saturday, December 21, 2019. There will be an opening reception on Friday, December 15, 2019.

MAGMA in Kent State’s Emerging Glass Exhibit

I am very pleased to announce that jurors Davin Ebanks and Benjamin Johnson have chosen my stained glass/paper clay wall hanging MAGMA to be part of the “Emerging Glass” Show which will be held in the Payto Gallery, part of the Center for the Visual Arts at Kent State University, 325 Terrace Drive, Kent, Ohio 44242 from September 4, 2019 through October 4, 2019. It is particularly gratifying to be part of the “Emerging Glass” Show because MAGMA was one of only 15 pieces chosen for this national juried show from over 160 entries from glass artists across the country.

Abstracting Emotions in MRAC

I am pleased to announce that juror Joseph Borrelli has selected my hand inked and hand pulled monotypes ABSTRACTING EMOTIONS#3 and ABSTRACTING EMOTIONS #5 to be part of the Manayunk/Roxborough Art Center’s Annual Juried Show. Both of these pieces are printed on handmade paper I made using scrap watercolor, printing, and business papers together with abaca pulp.  They were then mounted on different sheets of handmade paper I made using abaca, cotton linter, and salvaged natural fibers such as asparagus stalks, corn husks, and old blue jeans. The Show will run from Sunday, July 21, 2019 through Sunday Series , July 28, 2019 at MRAC’s gallery located at 419 Green Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19128. There will be an opening reception from noon until 3pm on the 21st.

I am very pleased to announce that juror Roxanne Phillips has invited my Joomchi wall hanging THE ART OF THE GERRYMANDER to be part of the Webster Arts national juried “Works on Paper” Exhibition. Webster Arts is located at 483 E. Lockwood, St. Louis, MO 63119 and the Exhibition will run from July 16, 2019 until August 30, 2019. And I am even more pleased that at the opening reception on July 16, 2019 THE ART OF THE GERRYMANDER  received an “Award of Excellence” one of only three awards given out.

THE HALLOWEEN BUNNY in Reclaimed! Show

I am very pleased to announce that juror Bryant Holsenbeck has invited my welded steel sculpture THE HALLOWEEN BUNNY into the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County “Reclaimed!” Show, a show which is focused on the use of reclaimed, recycled, and repurposed materials. The “Reclaimed!” Show will be located at 301 Hay Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301 and will run from June 28, 2019 until August 17, 2019. This is THE HALLOWEEN BUNNY’S second visit to North Carolina, previously having been part of the “Menagerie – Wild and Wonderful” Show in Washington, NC.

HESITATION, DEJECTION, and REVULSION accepted at the Fe Gallery

I am very pleased to announce that three of my hand built, raku fired paper clay sculptures from the “Cognitive Emotions” Series: HESITATION, DEJECTION, and REVULSION have been accepted into the “Pattern and Abstraction” Show at the Fe Gallery, 1100 65th Street, Sacramento, CA 95819. For this national juried show, only 54 pieces were selected from 784 entries, and I am honored to have had three of the 54. The Show will run from June 2, 2019 until July 26, 2019.
