This Exhibition, presented by the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in partnership with the National Parks Service is the result of an open call to artists to celebrate 100 years of National Parks in Hawai’i.

Jurors  Jay Jensen, Curator of Contemporary Art, Honolulu Museum of Art, from O’ahu and Nalani Kanakaole, artist, kumu hula, and cultural consultant, from Hawai’i Island selected from works submitted from across the country that reflect ideas about scenic beauty, cultural stories, memories and more, collectively honoring nature’s diversity and the parks we treasure.

Reaching for the Sun

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Reaching for the Sun, a dark field monotype, is an experimental piece in which I tried out some new (at least to me) inks and inking techniques as well as exploring a non standard format – a long, narrow, vertically composed image. I like the result, and plan to do some more, even if it means I’ll have to work on building long, narrow frames. 15″ x 2″, matted and framed to 21 1/2″ x 8″.
