I am very pleased to announce that the juror, Martha Gyllenhall, has selected my piece, DARK MOON RISING, to be part of the 2018 Annual Juried Show at Abington Art Center. DARK MOON RISING is a 21” x 21” wall hanging consisting of 26 hand built and smoke fired stoneware tiles. The tiles were smoke fired over a 28 hour period using a mixture of hard and soft wood chips as the firing medium. The Show will open on Friday, November 9, 2018 with a reception from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., and will run through January 4, 2019. The Abington Art Center is located at 515 Meetinghouse Road, Jenkintown, PA 10946.

Saints and Sinners

(C) JOHN FANSMITH 2018

SAINTS AND SINNERS is a new collograph print series which uses a complex and layered, but nevertheless, monochromatic palette throughout relying on the interstices to carry the image. SAINTS AND SINNERS #1, the first print in the series (and like all the others) leaves the viewer to decide whether it is the image of a saint or a sinner. While each piece in the series can stand alone, they are intended to be viewed in groups of at least three. Hand inked and hand pulled and matted and framed to 24” x 10”.

BIG CLIPS AND BUMP STOCKS

(C) JOHN FANSMITH 2018

BIG CLIPS AND BUMP STOCKS, a paper collage, is a follow up to SANDY HOOK: HOPES, FEARS AND THE NRA and was started after the Las Vegas shootings. Both pieces use the same materials (recycled paper and light cardboard) and tools (scissors, and a paper punch),  recognizing  that virtually nothing changed between the two events except the scale of the massacre which is reflected by the larger size of BIG CLIPS AND BUMP STOCKS. While I would prefer to stop with BIG CLIPS AND BUMP STOCKS, in reality, I expect this to be an ongoing series. Matted and framed to 18” x 24”.
